How I Found My Purpose (and how you can too)!

Hey crew!

Some of you already know me, so welcome back! To everyone else, hey! I’m Ben. Let me give you some insight as to who I am, what I’m doing here, and how I can guide you to a better you. (Or at least to give you some cool tips along the way!)

A little about me: I was born and raised in central Ohio, I like to travel and hike, and I’m passionate about health and wellness. Oh, and I’m an avid TV show addict. Like seriously, the writing in some of these shows is just so good… Anyways, training has always been a part of my life in some capacity or another. But for years, I had no direction in life. I didn’t know my purpose. We’re always asked “So what do you do for work,” “Where do you see yourself in 5 years,” and “When do you plan to retire/what are you going to do after you retire?” After a while, these questions can get old, especially if you haven’t given them much thought. So I figured, how do I answer these questions? What is it that I’m after in life? Am I even making the right decisions to get to that dream life that I ‘supposedly’ want? And then that got me thinking: I’m not the same person throughout life, I’m in constant change! So does that mean my purpose changes too? And I’ve found that indeed it does.

This doesn’t mean to scrap everything and start from scratch. In fact, that is impossible! You will always have newer experiences and perspectives to accelerate from. The important thing is to remember that you are never too old to try something new. In fact, Neuroplasticity states that you’ll always be able to learn something new, regardless of how old you are (I know, that’s a crazy word to just pull out in conversation). That said, I don’t think we give ourselves enough chances to reacquaint ourselves, with ourselves! Let’s take a moment to do just that.

So here’s the plan: get out your favorite note-taking gear (pen and paper, notes app, word document, etc.). Label this as “3 Questions To Determine My Current Purpose.” Then, list these 3 questions:

  1. What is the number 1 thing I am currently passionate about?

  2. How I use this passion to help someone else?

  3. If I gave away the help for free, would I still find this passion fulfilling?

Here’s mine:

  1. What is the number 1 thing I am currently passionate about?

    • I’m passionate about fitness, nutrition, and wellness.

  2. How I use this passion to help someone else?

    • I can train individual or group clients, teach fitness classes, and write wellness blogs.

  3. If I gave away the help for free, would I still find this passion fulfilling?

    • WITHOUT A DOUBT! Hence why I’m writing to you now! In fact, I aim to give as much information away for free for wellness, nutrition, and more!

So there you have it! In less than 10 minutes, you’ve put together an easy way to get to know your purpose! At least, one you can hold onto for now. Remember, all things will pass eventually. Thomas Paine said it best when he said, “Nothing, they say is more certain than death, and nothing more uncertain than the time of dying.” So let go of past intentions, and meet yourself where you are now! Let’s step into this new future, together.

Thanks again for reading. There’s definitely more to come.
